My company is sending a reminder email to all managers that the current Financial Year is ending soon! 

Time to evaluate our direct reports' performance again!  

Basically this is what I have to do as a manager, but I don't need to do no4 as that is what my boss would do: 

1. EOY review meetings take place
2. HR system open Managers input ratings
3. Market/Function calibrate and sign off on ratings
4. Calibration and regional sign-off
5. Managers communicate ratings to employees

The above is what I have to do for Performance. Next is on Reward.

1. Managers make pay increase recommendations (and view provisional bonus) in HR system
2. Regional and Global sign off reward recommendations 
3. Pay rises effective 
4. Managers communicate Reward outcomes

Time to get busy again! Now I'm managing 2 Lead Engineers and 10 Senior Engineers. I can tell you that I spend a lot of time in Resource Management, Functional Management & PowerPoint Presentation (to manage Up specifically) than anything else.  

I still do coding and still enjoy the process but then I don't think I want to spend most of the time dealing with applications.

Today my company arranged a "Coaching Skills" session for all managers. I am entitled because I was promoted as manager early 2020 after being interim manager for 6 months. 

I'd say this is really a good session! All the while I'm quite confused with the difference between Coaching and Mentoring but in this session I have got very clear answer from the person who's sharing!

Strange Foot Step Sound At Midnight

Once upon a time he was running some electrician works at one school. He usually worked till late at night to catch up with the project deadline. He would just sleep in a house which was located within the school's compound than hotel located few km away.  

One day, at midnight, he was awakened to strange foot-steps sound going towards another direction than his room and the sound went off very soon. The subsequent 2 weeks he was awakened to the same sound every night.

He was driving on a country road. 

Out of a sudden he 'saw' one huge Buddha status landing on his car from air. 

Nothing happened. 

The very next day, after a long journey on a winding cliff road, he finally reached his destination. 

He was so tired hence decided to take a nap. 

Suddenly, he was awakened by a loud noise. He quickly got down from his car and saw the tires were punctured. 

He felt so lucky, he dare not imagine if this happened to him while he's driving through that winding cliff road.

2019 Year End Review

Year 2019. Like the past few years, with the mercy from Divine, my luck has been getting better and better. I also overcame many challenges without much worries and efforts. There are many though, below are the highlights:

1) I'm still holding an IT full time job in an US/UK based MNC. This year I've got new job scope where I'm responsible to start some initiatives and market them to other teams. Here's the challenge, I created a test automation tool, however the existing QA team members were not very comfortable of using any new tool. With the help from Divine, opportunity arose suddenly, there's this burning Thailand project where the existing QA tools couldn't support due to the unstructured data format. My tool came to rescue, now there are more than 20 QAs using my tool. They are also starting to use it on other projects. 

2) I've been selling my book (both physical copy and soft-copy) on social media platform. This year I've hit the highest sales records, and December especially, is the highest ever in history! Without spending a cent! I'm using a self created method called "Leverage" for sales and marketing. And, first time ever, I managed to sell physical copy to someone from China!

Chapayom @ Central I-City

I'm honored to be invited as a blogger to review Chapayom's food and drinks.

According to Google Map, there's only one Chapayom in Malaysia, and it's located at Central I-city, Shah Alam. Central I-city is quite a unique mall, it has much Thai influences which are reflected in its design and the stores. 

Chapayom is at the LG floor. LG floor is full of eateries, which is amazing , and there's one supermarket there - The Village Grocer. 

I was there in front of the stall at 7pm+. Long queue. I could see staff are busy serving customers. The senior staff could not pause for a moment at all. 

I was given Thai Bubble Tea and Rose Bubble Tea. Both were good! The Thai Bubble Tea carried strong Thai spices flavor and the Rose Bubble Tea offered unique Rose flavor. Nowadays normal bubble tea stores mushrooming so if you want something different you should come here and get it. 

Next, I was served with Tomyam Instant Noodle. The soup was thick and rich with flavor, as usual - sour and a little bit of spicy, comparable to Maggie Seafood Curry instant noodle. One single bowl has 2 crab-sticks, 2 fired fish balls and noodle. It's quite filling. 

Here comes the gem - Som Tam. It was extremely hot and spicy. Very refreshing for the first few bites. After that my tongue was numbed by the hot and spiciness and I just could not finish this. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious and the portion was generous! So many crunchy nuts which enriched each and every bite.

Next, dessert time. I was served with 2 ice-creams - Thai Green Tea and Thai Milk Tea flavor. I still remember how I felt - it feels like bubble tea made into ice-cream. It was nice but it wasn't so nice after you just had so much bubble tea few minutes ago.

Oh yes, there's pop-corn chicken too! Nothing to shout about, microwave frozen food. However, definitely nice to have. One bite, two bite, many bites, your hand just couldn't stop. You just did not want to stop. Take one, dip into 2 special sauces (sorry I don't know their name but they tasted good), put into your mouth. Uhmmmmm!

Star Wars The Last Jedi and its strong Chinese Influence

Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi is so Tao. His soul left his body to confront Kylo Ren light years away, that's a typical Taoist practice, the Chinese Taoist term for this is 元神出窍. The way Luke died - "vanishing" in the air, is the greatest way to leave this world for every Tao practicioner , the Chinese Taoist terminology for this is 羽化飞升

In my earlier post, I emphasized the Tao element in the movie The Last Jedi. Now I'd like to share the Zen/Chan 禅 scene from the same movie - Master Yoda summoned a lightning bolt to burn the sacred tree and sacred Jedi classics.

According to the Zen/Chan belief, no words can describe Truth . You can only 'be' in the Truth 不立文字、直指人心.

In fact, Master of Tao - Lao Tzu 老子 also said the same thing: The Way that can be expressed is not the everlasting way. Names that can be named are not changeless names. 道可道 非常道 名可名 非常名

My third post about The Last Jedi.

Besides Tao and Zen, the movie also shows some Confucian elements. Luke revealed that the Force does no belong any Jedi. It is always there to keep the universe in balance. Rey , as a nobody, can also manipulate the Force.

IChing 易经 , one of the Confucian classics, not only tells us about the secret of Ba Gua 八卦 (the Divine Triagram), but also mentions that the entire universe is filled with 2 different types of Qi - the Yin 阴 and the Yang 阳

Confucian Master Mencius 孟子 even shared with all of us the method to nourish Qi 养气, which is always to be in the state of No-Guilt ,No-Regret and most importantly, No-Fear.

PTPTN is the Golden Goose for the Owners of Private Universities or Colleges

If you are not the Millennials, I bet that you still remember there was a time where private universities and colleges mushroomed, in just a few year time.

The sudden rise is not without a good reason, and the good reason is - PTPTN. 

The PTPTN money, through the expensive tuition fee, flow indirectly into the directors of private uni or colleges. These directors get the money, graduates get the debt. 

Do you think these directors have no close relationship with the ruling parties? Think about it. Just think in this way - do you think it's easy to get licence to establish a education institution? 

With such expensive tuition fee, yet these private uni/colleges offer below industry standard quality to students. The syllabus is always far behind what the real world is demanding. As a result, a lot of fresh grads acquired their precious degree - a degree that made them struggle to get jobs or to be treated as cheap labor, earning 1.8k or 2k per month. 

Well, grads have settled their tuition fee for sure. Else they won't even be able to get their degree. Now business deal between uni/college and student is done. Have these uni/colleges ever followed up with their alumni? When their alumni were having trouble to get jobs or were suffering from low salary, have these uni/colleges ever offered any help? Did they even care? Guess what, these uni/colleges raised their tuition fee every year! The owners or directors of these uni/colleges continue to enjoy strong growth in their wealth. 

Thanks to PTPTN, private high learning industry has now become the Big Cake in Malaysia. No wonder more and more institutions are joining the game. Where else to earn such a good money?

From English-Dominance to Multiple-Languages-Dominance

The English dominance around the world is not a healthy phenomenon.

Those who think that people should be able to know English are very arrogant. Look at the below link, some of those reporters were really not PROFESSIONAL at all. They're expecting someone who do not speak English as the first language to answer their questions in English. Come on, what's the point having INTERPRETER and TRANSLATOR then?

IMHO, for a healthier world, English native speakers should also pick up other foreign languages during primary or secondary education. That way they will be able to know more about the culture and etc outside the English-world.

I am urging those English-media companies to include the criteria of being well verse in other foreign languages other than just English when it comes to recruiting reporters or journalists.

Blame Religion for All the Wrongdoing?

There is this White American woman who posted a lot of comments blaming Islam for all the evil deeds carried out by muslim. From her comment I know that she's a victim of violent done by her muslim boy friend. No wonder she hates muslim and Islam so much. But I think it is foolish to hold on to the hatred because like what Buddha said "Having hatred is like drinking poison".  Hatred will do no good to her.

Anyway it is also irrational to blame Islam for what her muslim boyfriend did to her. But to certain extent perhaps you can say yes it's something to do with Islam as a 'religion' or 'culture'. Let me explain to you.

Like I mentioned in my earlier posts before, I 100% believe that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is a God's messenger. I believe that all the evil deed by some muslims are certainly not something taught by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Very simple, 

Divine message is always about LOVE.

The Prophets only intended to spread their teachings to every human, the Prophets did not really intend to 'form a religion or culture'.

For Prophet Muhammad (SAW) case, he was guided by God to do many things for the people in Mekah and Madina or Arab peninsular, and that's it. Only the people after him thought that there's a need to build a "religion empire" and what's worst is they took some of His teachings and mixed and matched with Arab cultures and 'some other religions that had already existed for some time' to form some kind of 'custom'.

So you see, it's human who need to create 'religions' so that they feel they are special or more superior than others who are not in the same 'religion' as them.

As the picture tells, muslim = the one who submits to God. As long as one submits to God, he/she is known as 'muslim' in Arabian language, and that's it, that's the true meaning. Who expand the scope of 'muslim'? human.   

I hope the 'Angmo' lady will be able understand this.

The Power of Blessing

The truth about blessings is, there is nothing to bless us with. There is nothing to bless us for. We already are blessed Divine souls here. So what else is there to bless? Nothing. You feel you need blessings because you feel that you are unable to accomplish your needs and wants.

You are feeling incomplete because you do not know that you are blessed. Do you know when you can get the greatest blessing in Life? It is when you realize that you are already blessed.
When you realize that you are already blessed and that you have received the blessing, you will not seek more blessings and now you are as complete as you can be. You will realize there is nothing more to seek for. That is the power of blessings. Where does the power of blessings come from? From you, it is already in you. Realize this and you will realize that there is no need to seek something out there from the great Divine when you already have it.

So when you come and ask for blessings, what are you doing? You are asking for the removal of ignorance. You are asking for the removal of the thought process that makes you believe that you are not blessed, that you are not worthy to receive success. It is the Divine who is giving you the energy to remove your ignorance.

When you get this realization, you have received the greatest blessings in Life. When you know that you have already been blessed, you will realize in that stillness of gratitude, love, and grace of God, that God is within you, for you.

You will know.

What do you do next with this realization? Now you need to enhance that energy, by praising God. Allow Him to guide you. Why? Simple, if He knows how to create you, if He knows how to bless you, if He knows how to put you in all successive happiness, and if He is with you, it is ridiculous to walk a path without Him or with Him following us. It is also ridiculous to walk a path with Him beside us. It is only right for us to walk a path with Him leading us. That is why we call Him the Good Shepherd.

That is all you have to do.

Know that you are blessed. Know that you are already blessed with success and to be continuously successful. Know that you can achieve anything that you wish for, in this world. You pray for God’s energy to come to you, so that you can achieve something, because you believe that God’s energy empowers you to achieve anything. You know it is a done deal. You just need to intent, and it will be done.

That is why the realization of blessing is the greatest blessing that you can ever receive. Be happy with what you already have and be thankful to be given all those. Most importantly, be thankful that you are able to realize the blessings that you have. Life is, after all, simple.

Confucius is Prophet

The following is my answer to "Why God did not send prophets to China"

God did send Prophets to China. Many. Fu Xi 伏羲, Zhou Wen Wang 周文王, Kong Zi 孔子(Confucius) are Prophets.

The reason you're asking this question is because you put a narrow definition to the word Prophet. You version of Prophet is from the Abrahamic religions.

Prophet simply means the one who is able to experience Divine's consciousness and is able to receive the divine messages from God.

Remember, God's teachings vary in different places.

Confucianism stresses the importance of Humanity rather than God because the way to become a better human is also the way to glorify God. (Heaven in Confucianism context)

Confucianism & Political System

Today I want to talk about one of my favourite topic - Confucianism. 

Confucius has always been my spiritual guide.

Confucianism says that there is only goodness in human.  There's no "sin" in us. We've given the Love from God (Tian 天、Tai Ji 太极), which is also our naturally born conscience.  

Confucianism says that the capable ones are going to be leader eventually, regardless whatever political system they're in. This is the law of nature.  Because God arranged the path for them to become the leaders. Confucianism is always about to go back to the Law of nature, which is the divine law of God.

According to Confucianism, leaders have great responsibility to the people they lead. Leaders have heavy duties to perform. Leaders themselves have to lead by example. In return their followers will pay respect to them. So it's a two way thing.

Leaders have to always stay humble all the time because God is there watching all human. God is all that is. Staying humble is also very much aligned with the law of nature. If you're not against the law of nature, then yes you're on the right path and God will always take care of you.

So, democratic or not, does not really matter. There's no perfect system. Every system has flaws and can be misused for evil purpose. Most importantly, every individual must live the "Jun Zi 君子" out from them, and get rid of the "Xiao Ren 小人" that resides within themselves.

Ads: Cut the crap of English-is-Everything

My company is hiring.

Benefits: 1.5 month of contractual bonus which is paid to you monthly. Insurance coverage for yourself and family members. Parking allowance is RM260 per month and it is more than enough. Data Line allowance is RM88 per month and they're talking about an adjustment to RM149 but not sure when will that happen. Employer's contribution on EPF is 14% after you finish your probation. The rest are standard stuff like claim for spectacles, dental treatment and blar blar.

Work Culture: I'm not sure about other departments. IT department is quite slow paced. Office is always 90% empty before 6pm. Once i stayed up till 6.30pm and i had a feeling that it was already 11pm or midnight. Not a place for those who love loads and loads of challenges.

My company is USA-based with offices around the world. Sometimes teleconference can be as early as 5 or 6am which is around 4 or 5pm Mountain Standard Time in USA. Sometimes it can be as late as 11pm which is the morning in Phoenix. You can attend to these calls from anywhere.

Your boss could be someone in Europe, USA or Japan or elsewhere. My boss is in Europe.

Oversea experience: You will get chance to visit Europe and USA unless you say no. Yes everything in this company is negotiable. The HR team here is very very helpful. They really take each employee as the company's asset. I can feel the difference between the HR team here with the one in my previous company which is also a MNC.

Relocation to USA: Very high chance as in just a few months we have three colleagues from the KL office chose to relocate to Phoenix, USA.

Language: This is not a place for people who loves English very very much or people who "mengagung-agungkan English". You can freely use "lah lor leh" and commit as many grammar mistakes as you can because our Angmos(White) Americans colleagues are able to understand Manglish. To them the real problem only comes when they're trying to understand what does a Japanese say in English. Anyway please don't say "I Think" too much as they will think that you really "think" only.

Work from home: Usually people get to WFH once in a month. It could be more but subject to the agreement between you and your boss.

Career Growth: Maybe you will be stagnant at one position for many years. One thing good is the C-level will visit almost all sites throughout the whole year and that's the chance for you to make them remember your name if you really want to move up the ladder.

Malaysian in Globalization Era

Today one of my teammate in Europe was making fun of me. He's asking if I am robot or some kind of AI product. We've never really met each other face to face. I've been asked a few times to meet my teammates in Europe but I have some personal constraints so I couldn't go. So far all communications between us are done via instant messaging, phone & email.

Anyway, since I'm the only one from the team who works in Asian time zone, to me going to office is just waste of petrol and commute time as I rarely open my mouth in office. 

Globalization era. Jobs can be done everywhere. Companies can deploy their workforces at any corner in the world. Good news is we as employee have more choices in terms of job opportunities, bad news is we can also lose our jobs at any time. So before we master the techniques to get help from the Supreme One, I'll suggest that we must cultivate the habit of saving.
We still have advantages though: languages and time zone.

Divine Message on 11th June 2015 - Spritiual Evolution

When we were very very young, we don't really know if we are praying or not. And when we've grown up we don't even remember that praying moment because we are unsure if we were really praying.

As we grow older, we start to have needs and wants. And usually we pray to God for our "wants".

As we continue praying for our wants, we will eventually come to a stage where we'd like to express our gratitude to God for giving what we want. So in this case we will have idols as "target" for us to offer physical items such as flowers and fruits and etc to express our gratitude. At this stage still we will continue to pray with "wants" in our mind.

Until one day we pray to God without any want, at that moment we are already deeply connected with God. It's a state of Total Surrender. At that time we don't really need idols anymore. We don't even need to pray physically because we are already praying all the time since we are deeply connected with God.

This is the process of Spiritual Evolution.

Different people go through different stages of spiritual evolution. Some takes longer time, some takes lesser time. It is sheer ignorance that we think we are more spiritually evolved than another guy. As spiritual evolution sometimes could happen overnight.
